There is currently no NYC homeless shelter accommodating pet owners, and few resources exist. For individuals and families refusing to leave pets behind, this is especially challenging. Two innovative programs have integrated pet welfare into their programs and accommodate them within housing programs. They should be contacted to find out about openings along with rules and regulations about pet welfare. Each of these programs have income requirements.

Common Ground: The Times Square and Prince George Facilities (both in Manhattan) accommodate one pet per apartment. Contact 212-659-0908 or review the website at www.commonground.org

Community Access: Community Access serves the formerly homeless and offers housing programs that are pet friendly. The website is www.communityaccess.org.
